Founded in 1967, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is the largest independent conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Bay. Serving as a watchdog, CBF fights for effective, science-based solutions to the pollution degrading the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. The foundation’s motto, “Save the Bay,” is a regional rallying cry for pollution reduction throughout the Chesapeake’s six-state, 64,000-square-mile watershed, which is home to more than 17 million people and 3,000 species of plants and animals.
Virtual Experiences:
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) provides a weekly roundup of engaging, educational, and inspirational Bay content to enjoy at home.
CBF educators are hard at work creating new ways for educators and students to keep learning outside and learning about the environment, sharing new interactive and social resources to keep you connected to the Bay and the watershed from your own backyard, porch, or park.
From freshwater mussels to microplastics, from trees in urban environments to dolphins in the Bay—there’s always something new to explore and learn about in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. CBF experts bring exciting Bay topics directly to you through their recorded webinars.
CBF’s Education Department takes students outside to explore the Chesapeake Bay watershed and learn how we can all take action to save the Bay. Our award-winning environmental education program has been one of the cornerstones of our effort to reverse the Bay’s decline. All programs are designed to support state standards of education and are based from the official definition for a “Meaningful Watershed Education Experience” as defined by the Chesapeake Bay Program.
We offer one day boat and/or canoe programs, including the historic Skipjack Stanley Norman in Annapolis. We also offer three day overnight programs on islands in the Chesapeake Bay.
Note – some programs can accommodate as young as 4th grade groups. Please refer to individual programs.
