The Captain Avery Museum preserves Shady Side’s maritime and recreational history while serving as stewards of our natural environment and watershed. We engage our community to value our shared heritage through accessible educational programs, exhibits, events, public water access, and native, sustainable landscapes.
Our mission is to engage our community and visitors with activities that explore evolving connections to the Chesapeake Bay through the prism of our historic home and waterfront property.
Tour Information
This self-guided museum operates under regular hours in the summer, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and on Sundays from 1 to 4 pm. Self-guided tours will also be available when during public programs and special events.

Hours of Operation
Open hours are on Saturdays from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM through Labor Day.
We are also open for tours by appointment.
Our grounds are open year-round except when noted on our calendar.
