DEADLINE EXTENDED! New deadline for student submissions to the competition is October 6!

This year celebrates the bicentennial of Frederick Douglass’ birth, and celebrations continue around the state and the nation. As part of the planning efforts, the Northern Arundel Cultural Preservation Society (NACPS) took the lead in organizing partners and sponsors for a county-wide “Anne Arundel Creative Arts Competition Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Frederick Douglass,” also known as the FD200 Creative Arts Competition.

The NEW deadline for student submissions is October 6, 2018.

Here are the Guidelines:

Read about Frederick Douglass. Decide how you can follow in his footsteps. Create an item from the categories below and describe how you envision following in his footsteps.

Create Artwork – Drawing, painting or photography, 36 x 42 inches maximum

Create a Video – (MP4file format)-Animation , spoken word, or rap, in 3-5 minutes

Create a Storybook – Written composition with illustrations, 7 page maximum

Create a Textile Object – Such as a quilt or garment

*NOTE!!! ALL PROJECTS MUST INCLUDE A 1-PAGE DESCRIPTION OF HOW YOUR PROJECT SPEAKS TO THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF FREDERICK DOUGLASS AND HOW YOU ARE FOLLOWING IN HIS FOOTSTEPS.

RULES
High School students, Middle School students, 4th and 5th grade students, as of September 2018 in all Anne Arundel County Schools are eligible to apply. All creative art competition entries must include a signed Parental Consent Form (included in attachment) and be submitted to art teachers or sent to NACPS, Box 44, Hanover, MD 21076 by October 6, 2018.

EVALUATION
A panel composed of impartial art, humanities and science educators/practitioners will evaluate each object or format submitted by students, no later than October 11, 2018. Criteria elements – uniqueness , creative relevance, theme relationship, clarity of expression and presentation attractiveness, applied on a 1 to 5 rating scale for assessing each item. Higher criteria application will be used in cases of ”ties”.

AWARDS
One winner will be selected in each group – High School, Middle School and 4th & 5th graders. Prizes: High School-$200, Middle School-$200, 4th & 5th grades-$200.

PRESENTATIONS
An awards presentation will be held at the Chesapeake Arts Center on Friday, November 9, 2018, 6-8 p.m.
