AASLH History Leadership Institute
The American Association for State and Local History is currently accepting applications for the History Leadership Institute’s 2021 Seminar. Since 1959, the HLI Seminar has provided people at all management levels the tools, ideas, and connections to enhance their ability to lead institutions and the field.
The HLI Seminar operates on a “2+2” format: 2 weeks of online learning, followed by an intensive 2-week residential experience at Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis, Indiana. During that time, a cohort of about twenty professionals dives deep into a broad range of current and future issues facing the history and museum field, including equity and access, measuring impact, community engagement, strategic planning, facilitating change, and much, much more. The 2021 Seminar is scheduled for June 1–26.
Applications are due December 31.
400 Years of African American History Fellowship
The Maryland Department of Commerce Office of Tourism and the Maryland State Archives Legacy of Slavery Program are still seeking qualified researchers with a background in U.S. History, American Studies, African American Studies, or related disciplines to fill four Fellowships funded by the 400 Years of African American History Commission. Fellows will spend time with professionals at the Maryland State Archives and the Maryland Office of Tourism Development to gain knowledge and experience about how these state agencies, along with other public and private organizations, work together to document and inspire travel to Underground Railroad sites across Maryland.
Duties for the fellows will include examining primary and secondary sources in an effort to glean biographical and historical information about specific individuals and locations related to the Underground Railroad and slavery in Maryland, writing National Park Service National Underground Network to Freedom applications for qualifying sites, curating the Google business listings of current Maryland Network to Freedom members, presenting a public program about the research and findings, and recording results in database and web environments. The fellowship will last from January 2021-May 2021 and fellows will receive a stipend of $5,000.

National Gallery of Art Fellowships
The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art is now accepting applications for fellowships including: the Beinecke Postdoctoral Fellowship Program; the Predoctoral Dissertation Fellowship Program; and the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Predoctoral Fellowships for Historians of American Art to Travel Abroad Program.
Fellows have access to the notable resources represented by the art collections, the library, and the image collections of the National Gallery of Art, as well as to the Library of Congress and other specialized research libraries and collections in the Washington area, such as Dumbarton Oaks, the Archives of American Art, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
