Towards a More Perfect Union: Article II The President

April 4 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

In anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary, we invite you to a continuing series of talks hosted by SERC archaeologist Jim Gibb, examining our country’s often bumpy road towards freedom and self-determination.

Article II: The President
Saturday, April 4, 2-3pm

Speaker: Dr. Jim Gibb, SERC Environmental Archaeology Lab

Convention delegates understood legislatures and legislation, but the office of president was novel, different even from state governors. They addressed the matter early in the Convention, tabled it, and then rushed through the details at the end of the Convention. In this presentation we will explore what the Constitution has to say about the presidency and why. We’ll also look at the Presidential Succession Acts of 1886 and 1947, and the 22nd and 25th amendments.

This event is entirely in person. Attendees 12 years and older are welcome to join. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Talks are free, but space is limited, so advance signup is required!
